What's new
Why we'rewe are changing
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) wants to help you find the information you need. You told us our 6 old websites were difficult to use. So in December 2014 we launched an all new mpi.govt.nz.
Over time this site will replace:
- the old mpi.govt.nz (now archive.govt.nz)
archive.mpi.govt.nz) - biosecurity.govt.nz
- foodsafety.govt.nz
- foodsmart.govt.nz
- fish.govt.nz
- the fisheries infosite (fs.fish.govt.nz).
In December 2015, we closed foodsmart.govt.nz, after moving the information about everyday food safety to MPI.govt.nz.
Bear with us while we build the new website
Replacing 6 old websites is a big job. We're re-writing and restructuring thousands of pages of information.
Because of the volume of information, we'll be adding content in stages over time.
This means some links will continue to take you to the old websites until we've finished rewriting content.
Our latest additions
Since September 2015, we've published content on a range of topics including:
- a tool to help people navigate changes to the Food Act
- shellfish biotoxin alerts (including the ability to subscribe for updates)
- information about the new $87 million biocontainment lab in Upper Hutt
- In our protection and response section, we tell you about:
- major problems our primary industries are facing and how MPI is responding to them, like El Nino or pest insects and diseases we're trying to stop
- how to report a pest or disease
- what MPI is doing to find pests on land, air, and sea
- the new national policy direction for pest management
- how the New Zealand Government responded to the 1080 blackmail threat.
Since launch, we've also added:
- a new section on animal welfare, written with you in mind
- over 100 pages with specific fees and charges information
- information about MPI sponsorship
- a new section for pork imports
- improving the search function.
We're still working on content in these sections and the others across our website.
If you have questions, email info@mpi.govt.nz
What we're doing differently
Because your experience is our priority, we're:
- reorganising information so that it's easy to find
- giving you clear guidance on completing tasks
- rewriting content in plain English
- making a website that can be viewed on any device, including smartphones and tablets
- improving accessibility by meeting the New Zealand Government Web Standards
- using the Government's common web platform to ensure consistency and information security.
Can you help us get it right?
