Auckland Metro Group

Responsible for air and sea freight inspections at transitional facilities in the Auckland area. This includes: sea containers, vehicles, fresh produce, express freight, unaccompanied baggage, forest produce, Asian foodstuffs, traditional Chinese medicines, machinery, car parts, seed, grain, cut flowers, nursery stock, etc.

Locations of counters for private importers

Auckland Biosecurity Centre – Tom Pearce Drive, Auckland International Airport

Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Private importers may also be able to have unaccompanied baggage cleared by MPI at the NZ Customs Service public counter – Custom House, 50 Anzac Ave, Auckland – between 8am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Note: If you are clearing a full container load of personal effects (where all items in the container belong solely to one importer), NZ Customs may not be able to help you with the whole clearance. In this instance, you should use the MPI counter at the Auckland Biosecurity Centre, Tom Pearce Drive.

Commercial consignments submitted by agents can be submitted over the counter, but they will not be processed at the counter. These consignments will be added to the existing work queue and the BACCs returned by fax.

This group will handle all BACC production for both air and sea cargo and courier freight (except air cargo of fresh produce). This group is also responsible for the approval of temporary transitional facilities and the sea container audits.

Auckland Facilities Approval Group

Responsible for the monitoring and approval of MPI approved transitional facilities (ATFs) within the Auckland area. This group is also responsible for monitoring and approving containment facilities (including post-entry quarantine facilities) in the Auckland area and temporary facility approvals.

The processing of applications for approval will vary depending on the type of approval requested. Allow at least 6 weeks.
